Here are the guidelines for creating your own custom character for Bearded Dragons Inn’s Ballad of a Broken World games. If you don’t want to create one from scratch, pre-generated character sheets are available.
It is recommended that you eliminate the guess work and the math and create a free account on D&D Beyond to create your character. It’s just easier and you can’t make a mistake. Be sure you equip your armor and weapons on the character sheet to get accurate Armor Class, Attacks & Damage information. You can print your sheet from the website or save as a PDF. You can also find printable 5th Edition Character sheets if you Google it.
Rules
- New characters start out at Level 3. See the chart below to see how level progression works. If you had a pre-generated character for the first game with us. You are allowed to transfer your rewards, gold, items and checkpoints over to a custom character up to level 4.
- Your character’s race and class must come from the 5th Edition Players Handbook (PHB). There are a few exceptions that have been unlocked during the campaign. They are: Hexblade Warlock Genie Warlock, Twilight Cleric, Bladesinger Wizard, Divine Soul Sorcerer, Tabaxi, Goliath, Warforged and Goblin races.
- Abilities must be chosen from Standard Array: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8
- Hit Points are maximum for your class for your first level. Every level after that is the average HP for your class.
- Equipment – You can take starting equipment or gold and buy what you want from the tables in the PHB.
- Multiclassing is allowed. The only restrictions are the ability restrictions for the class in the multiclassing rules in the PHB. That is usually a 13 ability score in the prime ability for that class e.g. 13 INT for wizards.
- Maximum Level for all characters is 12. At that point the character is considered retired and you must start a new character following all previous rules. Equipment, magic shards and gold do not carry over to the new character. Plan accordingly.
